Self-Made Bias Binding

Commercial bias tape is too thick for 1/6 scale. Cut your own at 6 mm wide for a true couture neckline finish.

Follow the written steps below in the meantime.

  1. 01

Mark a 45° line on your fabric

True bias only — anything off-grain cracks under curve.

  2. 02

Cut 6 mm wide strips parallel to the bias line

Join strips at 90° if you need length. Press joins open.

  3. 03

    Spray-starch + press flat

Starch stabilizes the bias and stops it stretching while applied.

  4. 04

Stitch right side of binding to right side of garment

1.5 mm seam allowance. Stretch the binding lightly on inside curves.

  5. 05

Fold over and hand-stitch the back side

Catch only the lining. Mitre any corners with a single fold to eliminate bulk.
