Hidden Boning Channels

Doll-scale corsets need boning to hold their shape. 1 mm cable ties stand in for true couture spiral steel.

Follow the written steps below in the meantime.

  1. 01

Mark channel lines on the lining only

Use a hera marker — never ink. Channels run parallel to centre front, spaced 6 mm apart.

  2. 02

Stitch 2 mm wide channels through lining

Backstitch at both ends. The shell stays clean — no stitching visible from outside.

  3. 03

Cut cable-tie boning 4 mm shorter than each channel

Round both ends with scissors so the corners don’t puncture the channel.

  4. 04

Slip a boning piece into each channel

Tuck the lining edge down and tack closed by hand.

  5. 05

Press the finished bodice over a tailor’s ham

Sets the curve into the boning. Doll-scale couture, fully shaped.
